The Cumanın Camii in Antalya can look back on a varied architectural history: Built on the former forum of the Roman city, the church was extensively modified several times in the following centuries and used as a Friday mosque in Ottoman times. The individual construction phases can be seen, among other things, in the architectural decoration. Components of the ancient predecessor building were partly reworked for the construction of the church, others were manufactured ex novo. Spolia as well as newly manufactured workpieces were also used for the later reconstructions.
The analysis of the architectural sculpture of the Cumanın Camii, most of which has been lost today, is based primarily on photographic documentation prepared by Urs Peschlow over several decades since the 1960s.
