Since 2023, our Department of Christian Archaeology has been able to carry out large-scale excavations in Ostia in the area of the Constantinian bishop's church and its predecessor building thanks to funding from the DFG.
The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Cologne (Prof. Dr M. Heinzelmann), the German Archaeological Institute in Rome (Dr N. Zimmermann), the Parco archeologico di Ostia antica (A. D'Alessio) and the Università “La Sapienza” (Prof. Dr E. Borgia).
