Human clothing has far more than just practical functions: We all communicate our psychological and social identity more or less consciously by means of this ‘outer skin’. However, reconstructing and interpreting this sign language is not easy, especially for the older epochs. This presentation of late antique clothing is intended as an aid. It is aimed not only at specialists but also at a wider audience.
We offer (interactive) images and short texts as well as further information on clothing types from Late Antiquity, which can be identified in contemporary images and texts, from the following categories: Coats and cloaks, tunics, trousers, headgear and accessories, footwear and adornments.
